Recognized as one of Canada's Greenest Employers (2017)

Here are some of the reasons why Western University was selected as one of Canada's Greenest Employers (2017):

  • Western University achieved a 60 percent waste diversion rate through extensive composting and recycling programs including plastics, batteries, printer cartridges, light bulbs and electronic waste -- the University also established a 90 percent waste diversion goal by the year 2022
  • Established in 2010, the President's Advisory Committee for Environment and Sustainability (PACES) is responsible for ensuring the goals outlined in the Western Sustainability Policy and the Sustainability Strategic Plan (called Imagine 2022) are enacted upon -- initiatives range from incorporating sustainability into academic programming to ensuring new construction and building renovations are designed sustainably
  • Western University manages a voluntary "Green Office Program" which features a self-reporting tool that helps offices across the university gauge their ongoing sustainability efforts
