Recognized as one of Canada's Greenest Employers

Here are some of the reasons why BlackBerry Limited was selected as one of Canada's Greenest Employers (2018):

  • Along with being active in many initiatives to address sustainable technology manufacturing, BlackBerry has led its industry in achieving many technological firsts as well as a waste diversion rate of over 93% -- the company also extends its approach through a supplier code of conduct policy to encourage others to follow suit
  • As part of its focus on sustainability, BlackBerry reviews toxicity and impacts on the environment when sourcing product materials, and follows up throughout the lifespan of its technology, designing products to be repairable and as long lasting as possible (users hold on to their BlackBerry phones the longest, up to 32 months versus the 22 month industry average) -- the company also manages an in-house BlackBerry recycling program and is a member of the industry-led Call2Recycle collection program to ensure proper disposal
  • BlackBerry has participated in the international Carbon Disclosure Project since 2009 -- the not-for-profit initiative provides a formal system for companies to measure, disclose, manage and share emissions and climate change information
