Here are some of the reasons why Metrolinx was selected as one of Canada's Top Employers for Young People (2018):

  • Metrolinx created the Rob MacIsaac Fellowship Program, a unique initiative that allows students to complete research in a public sector environment -- participants receive financial assistance to conduct research on a transportation-related issue over a 4-month period while receiving guidance from senior staff -- previous topics included the implementation of solar power shades in Metrolinx parking lots and the impacts and challenges of moving freight on transit
  • In partnership with Centennial College, Metrolinx manages a Truck and Coach Technician Apprenticeship program (operating since 1997) -- the organization hires approximately 5 apprentices each year who work under professional mentors for a 10-month period
  • Additionally, Metrolinx recently partnered with The United Way and Ready, Willing and Able to generate employment opportunities for students with intellectual disabilities or autism spectrum disorder

Recognized as one of Canada's Greenest Employers

Here are some of the reasons why Metrolinx was selected as one of Canada's Greenest Employers (2018):

  • Along with it's raison d'├ętre, Metrolinx provides preferred parking for carpoolers, manages (and participates in) the regional Smart Commute program in operation at employers across the region, partners with the Zipcar car sharing service to offer vehicles at a number of GO Stations, and partners with the Toronto Parking Authority to operate the BikeShare program in the city -- head office employees can also take advantage of secure indoor bicycle parking as well as telecommuter workstations to help reduce the number of overall daily commutes
  • Operating in Canada's most populous region (approximately 7 million people), Metrolinx's purpose is defined by its regional transportation plan entitled The Big Move, first launched in 2008 -- the plan will be reviewed each decade and has an understated goal of creating a "transportation system for our region that enhances prosperity, sustainability and quality of life"
